Dinner at Victoria Station

Thanks to my brother's good result, I get to have dinner at Victoria Station tonight. I was excited for a whole day, and finally, went to the restaurant straight after arriving at KL train station.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was as warm as usual. Tonight there were many customers. We arrived there around 10 p.m. with hungry stomachs.

I was having a hard time choosing between my favourite lamb, prawn and salmon. At last I chose a Combo of sea prawns and grilled lamb loin as you can see in the picture below. Besides, I ordered a cup of fresh honeydew milk.

As expected, my lamb loin with other servings were very tasty. Although I would prefer the prawn to be served in my hometown's style, this prawn in my combination was not bad. The others are also satisfied with their meals.

I think we'll wait for my brother's another good performance next year to celebrate at V.S.  Thanks again, bro!  XD

DIY Pencil Box & Floral Sling Bag

These DIYs were made in my last precious holiday after my second module exam.

The materials needed are two piece of cloth. I bought the materials from the 100Yen Japan shop, Daiso. Each piece of cloth is only RM5.00. So I think it is kind of worth it to made the pencil box that I like, and I didn't use all of the cloth! (which means i'm going to make other things later :D)

Left: Pencil box, Right: Pouch
Both with same design using two pieces of cloth.

My brother asked me to make one pencil box for him, and he get one in full black. I hope that he won't spoil it.

Besides, I made a little sling bag for myself. Before that i didn't think of making that, but when I found the floral print in Daiso, I just couldn't resist buying it. The print has vintage style which is what I really like. (like in the Classics)

Materials: Another Floral print from Daiso and zip

Next time you might spot me shopping and studying with my own DIYs. ^^    Ciao~

Exam + Education

Now I'm entering a new module, FYI, my study is according to modules instead of semesters. Every module ends with an exam, which accumulate marks for the year end exam. With each module is about 6 to 7 weeks long, can you imagine how fast or often i have to sit for exam? And hence this is my source of stress.

I'd been thinking, as we grow older, we are subjected to more and more exams. The duration of study or preparation for exam shorten as we study higher level. Primary we have 6 years before UPSR, lower secondary 3 years for PMR, higher secondary 2 years for SPM. For my experience, 1 year of express classes to prepare for A levels. Now, 2 months + for end of modules exams. Not to mention my piano and violin plus theory examinations. For some moment, I thought the purpose of my life were to sit for exams.

Please understand that I'm not against exams. I believe in the purpose of exams, which is to assess our knowledge on the subjects. However I'm against the need of having to study unnecessary subjects, which waste our time and effort to attend class, prepare for it and sit for the exam. I still remember how i spend time memorising the facts for sports (Pendidikan Kesihatan dan Jasmani) definitions of values in Moral education, details in history, which i couldn't recall anything now. Now, in college, its depressing that there is still presence of invaluable subjects that we have to waste our time to attend, namely Career Guidance and Technopreneurship.

Could you imagine having to attend compulsory career guidance classes in a medical school? It seems like they thought us having difficulties in choosing the right profession. Honestly i think it should be done in the form of seminar but not wasting so much of our time. Techno class is like they are expecting us to memorise the facts of the components of business. I wish you can imagine how tough for me to prepare for the subject that i disliked so much.

I've been an object moulded by our nation's education system, but I've opinion and feedback on the system itself. I hope to have improvements on this matter, to make a student's life less miserable and more enjoyable. I hope.

Saw this quote in The Piano Guys' video and I like it!
They are awesome.

BUT FORCE YOUR WAY INTO ITS SECRETs,
FOR IT AND KNOWLEDGE CAN

Dumpling Craze

Whenever I'm at home, I'll make dumplings to eat because I'm so in love with dumplings and dimsum! It's quite easy to make but i use a few hours to make as i make a lot at once.

Dumplings!

I would serve it by two ways:
one is to boil it;

 another is to fry it:

To make the skin you'll need:

  • 350g of medium flour
  • Some hot water  & cold water (the volume of water can be adjusted)

The dumpling ingredients:

  • around 450g of minced pork
  • Kuchai
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 big teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 2 big teaspoons of soysause and cooking oil
  • Some carrots & turnips
* Using these measurements you can make about 50 dumplings. Try it out!

~

I know, it has been a long long time since the last post. The last two months were hectic, maybe its because i'm new in this environment and need more time to adapt to it. The first module which actually is the foundation, has finished, and i'd sat for the first exam last week. That's life--- taking exam when you have only studied for less than two months.

My life in Ipoh is quite exciting. One thing that surely cheer me up when i feel homesick is the food! No wonder people call Ipoh as the heaven of delicious food! Especially when my house located just in ipoh town and easily reachable to every direction in Ipoh. For now, i've tried quite a lot of food here (I'm still considering whether to write them down and give ratings and comments about the food.)

I miss people on KL, Subang Jaya and Kajang. Sometimes I feel sad for not able to study overseas, in "real" universities, where they write thesis and do extensive researches, like many of my friends who definitely are going to do. Some are going to US, to UK and also to Singapore. Do i have a chance? Yes, but it surely is more than 7 years later. I'm considered to be faster than many of my peers, which are only going to sit for STPM end of this year. That's the only thing i can console myself with.

My university life is not the same as i expected. I thought to have more freedom, like more time for own study, and activities which i've missed in past, but it's not. My timetable is even more packed than before, study hours even longer than any stage of education i'd experienced, which annoys me. Half of the time I have to attend for university compulsory subjects that are useless except for English subject. The long hours make everyone of us lethargy after class, what energy left to drive us to revise or study? Moreover, we still have to eat, sleep and do house chores.

And tomorrow starts the new module. Life goes on.

My first day lesson in medical college

Alright, how do i start this? Today is my first day of lesson in RCMP. The orientations were done in past three days, and there will be more orientation in Pulau Pangkor weeks later. I guess the additional orientation is to built stronger boding among the seniors and us.

Out of my expectation, the first lesson started with a patient entering the lecture theatre. We were required to ask her questions to find out the cause of her condition. She was assigned to be in the condition of Severe Dehydration and answer our questions according to the relevant signs and symptoms. Based on the questions we asked we can know how she get into this situation. Thus we had an experience of first day becoming a doctor.

After taking down all the information, we were divided into small groups to discuss furthermore on this to confirm the diagnosis. I'm fortunate to be in an active group that everyone contributes their ideas that we have to further study on. Lastly the ideas were organised into learning outcomes that we hope to find out and bring to the second discussion later on.

There was a tutor that guide us in the discussion so we can stay in the path. I'm happy that he asked questions to lead us there but not feeding us. It was a nice brainstorming session.

Although the patient is not really having the condition (fake),I feel that the whole Q &As and discussion helped us to think more critically and relate the ideas into main points.

Later on, the first lecture i attended was Anatomy. The proffesor explained so fast that we couldn't catch up taking down the notes.

The way that i'm studying now is different from my study skills earlier. In university level group study is definitely imperial, if not, you might bored to death or couldn't understand the concept well. Most importantly, they are someone to listen to your ideas.

You'll learn to be grateful after living here

Countdown of "The Most Unwanted Things I Wish It'll Never Happen" ....urgh...."again" since it already happened on me last year.

For those who often complain to me how sick to eat the same food everyday; how you wish you could live away from your family to gain freedom; how bad it is without tv, computer, movies; I can tell you how lucky it is for you to have clean food, how I wish i can stay in my home and of course I would want to have entertainment but sometimes we just can't and thats doesn't matter.

Last year have been very educating. I've learned to be grateful for everything I had before that and I'm sure if you were given the same condition as these you'll feel the same way as me.

Number 3:

The sudden presence of huge living things, including moths even larger than my hand, sickly huge spider with long legs which runs extremely fast, and cats that suddenly found lying in your bedroom.
Yes, I live in a jungle, not forest.

I don't have photos of the spider as it appeared Running to me when I was taking bath! My housemates saw it when they were in the bathroom too.

Number 2:

You might want to open your eyes when you are eating. You wouldn't want to try on "fried flies" or any special exoskeletons. Once my housemate saw maggots underneath her chicken skin.

Number 1:

The colour of our water may not necessarily be colourless. It comes with distinct colours and sometimes  accompanied with smells. This is voted "the most unbearable" by my housemates as we have to use water  to take bath, wash clothes, cook dinner. We truly realised the importance of water!

Every colour below comes in seperate days.

Brown-black---

The most extreme, happened when water came after water ration,
bringing rust that sediments the tank. Surely can not be used.

Smell of metal.

Our bathroom we wash every week, but when dirty water came,
it stained our cleaned floor.

Yellow ---

Pale Green ---

With strong smell of chlorine ?!

The End

Although the unwanted things happened, life can be modified to become better by bringing in things we like. Thanks to my lovely lavender and daisy who accompanied me through this year!

Sketching

Short holiday after trial, i occupied myself with some sketching, being a beginner. The theme i gave myself was "the most beautiful actresses in large screen" of my choice, portraying my favourite characters, of course.

From upper left, Liv Tyler starring Arwen Evenstar in the lord of the rings; Upper right is Emma Watson!!! starring Hermione Granger in Harry Porter; Lower left, Anne Hathaway starring in Brides War; and Lower right, Keira Knightley starring Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, and my another favourite movie, Pirates of the Caribbean!

Bonjour !

Good day people! Sorry for the dead blog. I have been burning the candle at both ends in last few weeks, doing last minute study for MUET, preparing presentation slides, finishing maths homework.

Yep, life is hectic, but still, there is something I can do to release the tension. Yesterday, I went the Chinese Book Fair in Viva Home exhibition hall, Jalan Loke Yew, KL. One of the books i bought is self learning Francais, written by a Taiwanese author. I've always want to learn French. Now i do have the book, Yeah! Only I wish to have some time!

Also, i found a very nice paper and craft shop in the mall, ground floor. The shop was like the heaven to me. The temptation was so strong and i bought many nice patterned papers. It was so heartbreaking to spend money on them!

Reading books (except for text books) is my way of relaxing. What about you?
Have a nice day!

DIY Angpau Lantern

Chinese New Year is coming! I couldn't resist the urge to make some decorations for my house. Following instructions from book, I've made two lanterns using angpaus and self-made paper flowers.

This lantern is very big. I used 30 angpaus to make this, and folded about 20 paper flowers to put in the gaps. I'm going to hang this in the centre of the living room. It's quite easy to make, but time consuming. Most of the time i'm making the flowers.

This one is quite similar to the previous. Only 5 angpaus needed to make a small lantern.

Close up
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! May good luck always with you!
